Indiana Governor Holcomb has decided to require all Hoosiers to wear a mask starting Monday, July 27, 2020! This decision was released on Wednesday. It is not “suggested,” rather, “required.”
If you are over the age of 8, you are required to wear a mask while inside, public spaces, and in areas where social distancing is unable to be practiced.
Due to the increased hospitalization rates and increase in the number of cases, Holcomb found this to be a necessary action to protect the Hoosiers in Indiana.
What if I don’t want to wear one?
Holcomb has decided to make this mandate a Class B misdemeanor. While our dedicated officers will not be specifically patrolling the streets for people not wearing their masks, Holcomb asks that Hoosiers do the “right thing” and wear them. He does not want to have to start issuing misdemeanors. Police officers will be educating people before they start punishing. However, it is a state law to wear a mask, so you can be punished for not wearing one.
Businesses do not have to serve you or let you in their buildings if you are not wearing a mask! Always make sure you have one with you. If you forget, some businesses are kind enough to offer you one, but do not always expect that will be the case!
Who all must wear a mask?
According to the governor, these are the requirements for wearing a mask:
